The Producer
Named after the oratory located below its first vineyard plot, L'Oratoire des Papes has been producing prestigious wines since 1880. Its cuvées reflect the essence of the four iconic terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, celebrated for their harmony of power and elegance.
Origin & Production
The vineyard spans a mosaic of soil types—limestone shards, rolled pebbles, sandstone, and safres—spread across three distinct geological eras. Grapes are grown under organic farming principles, with minimal intervention in the winery to preserve the authenticity of the terroir.
Vinification & Ageing
Partial whole-cluster fermentation, with variable stem inclusion based on vintage. Co-fermentation of grape varieties enhances complexity. Fermentations begin at 19–20 °C, then rise to 25–32 °C. Gentle extraction through light pump-overs and long macerations, favoring infusion over force. Aged 12 months in French oak truncated vats, followed by 8 months in concrete tanks.
Tasting Notes
Palate: Silky tannins and refined structure reveal a medley of red fruit and spice aromas, leading to a luscious and lingering finish.
Serving
Serve at 16–18 °C after light decanting.
Food Pairing
Perfect with braised lamb, Provençal couscous, or wild rabbit à la royale.
